Narative Story analysis
In our production we plan to employ a nonlinear narrative to not only emphasize enigma, but also to create verisimilitude (within the aspects of the story that involve intoxication). Our enigma appears to be a climax of a separate story, we say the protagonist inebriated preparing for his journey home. The disequilibrium is him getting into the cab, not that he realises that this is significant event. However, this is the point in which he, if sober, would realise that something isnt right. The recognition comes in much later when he wakes up without knowledge of where he is or what happened. The movie both climaxes and end as we see the antagonist (that 'taxi' driver) walk in with breakfast at which point the protagonist has a flashback that reveals the conversation that took place inside Kerims car.
Our story features two main characters James and Kerim however the story does not feature such explicitly black and white characters as the theorist Propp Exhibits. It could be said to be a hero - villain story however the relationship betwixt the two is not as such. James the hero does not display many hero-like attributes in fact the only way he matches this criteria is that he is a victim, as we know from the start he is a man of vice. Our villain is also not as transparent or even as villainous as your textbook antagonist, he like james does not display many features of his classic character type. In fact Kerim may also seem to be a helper that displays signs of mental instability.

Preliminary Short Film Analysis 2
Short Film: Bear
Bear, by Nash Edgerton is a fantastically made short film with 2 huge plot twists, the first one which you completely didn't see coming, and the second one which really hits the viewer hard. After the girl wakes up and gets dressed, you can already see she is getting pissed off at the guy because he hadn't even woken up for her birthday ( he had but he was ignoring her for part of the act ) and then when he goes downstairs, just says Hi to her without even acknowledging her birthday, and she finishes scraping on the topping to her toast and he just swipes it off the counter and sits down and watches TV in his pants. She walks up to the door, clearly distressed and he just keeps up the act and seems oblivious to what is going on and how he hasn't said happy birthday yet. She goes on her bike ride and he organizes his stuff and jumps in his car up to his base on the cliff where he organizes the picnic, sets up the happy birthday banners and puts on his bear suit to surprise her. When she turns the corner, he jumps out dramatically in his bear suit and she gets a huge fright and flies straight off the cliff on her bike and lands straight on her left side, thumping to the earth. The guy is horrified and makes his way down to the cliff. He finds her, alive, but injured severely with cuts on the face and surely broken body parts. He tells her it was all a set up and that he could never forget her birthday and she sort of starts to smile to share the joke after calling him a "dick" multiple times. He puts back on his bear suit head piece to show her how realistic it is and he says "I'm very scary!" and "I'm gonna eat ya!" and she laughs and the shot goes to her face where she's smiling and laughing and suddenly a huge shot goes off and blood splatters all over her face as he slumps over her body, dead. She weeps as the man in the distance on the clifftop shouts down for attempted reassurance without realizing he just killed her boyfriend.

Genre analysis
Movie name: Seven
Genre: Thriller
Stars: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman
A thriller about 2 detectives, one rookie and veteran, on a mission to hunt down a serial killer. This serial killer uses the seven deadly sins (Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Envy, Wrath, Pride, Lust) as his modus operandi.
The main poster for this movie has various features ( use of media texts) to it which help imply the fact that its a horror/thriller movie through the use of media language.
There is a close up shot of both Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman ( the stars) which is taken at a angle which is use of technical codes. This helps the audience understand that the focus is on them.
The two main codes which come in to use here are, colour codes and written codes.
There is a fire like colour mixed with areas of black used in most of the poster, these colours creates a specific image in the audience's mind, which is gives them the idea of darkness(black) and danger( fire like red/orange) on connotative level.
The Word 'SEVEN' is in white which makes it really stand out. While straight down the centre of the poster the Seven Deadly Sins are written(Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Envy, Wrath, Pride, Lust) this creates a link. At first the image was very polysemic as the poster could represent an action movie, and the term 'SEVEN' could be referring to a gang or something else. But after the sins where written and the image showing danger and darkness with the word 'SEVEN', it anchors the idea of it being a horror/thriller movie.

Preliminary Short Film Analysis
Film: The Ellington Kid
The story is set in a typical South London kebab shop, where Nathan tells Beefy a story. It's a story he's heard about the Ellington kid, who got stabbed and found his into the very kebab shop they are sitting in. The gang who had attacked him follow him into the shop, wanting to finish what they started off and kill him. However they are confronted by three men who work in the kebab shop who defend the Ellington kid. These three men said to be from a rough part of a north african country and aren't scared of the gang. Flashbacks with the help of a voice over in the short film to help show the audience what happened in detail. These flashbacks are based upon Nathan's idea of what happened, which means that they may not be reliable. Nathan uses the idea of there being an urban myth towards the end when he tells his friend who is having a burger that some say the kebab shop workers killed the three gang members and that the meat was from the bodies as a joke. However, the short movie has what we call an open ending, as it ends with one of the kebab shop workers sharpening the knife they use to cut the meat, and smiling listening to Nathan and his friend, which then makes the audience think that it might be actually true and not an urban myth.

Coursework short film story idea
The story is told from James' point of view, starting off at 3am in a central area of London walking around the streets alone after having a fight with his friends in a club, very intoxicated and under the influence. not aware of what is going on around him he walks through a park where he is mugged. He stumbles around without his wallet and phone in search for some food and a ride. As he walks he starts imagining his friend, seeing him walking in the street and and on a bench sitting looking at him. James meets a man who he doesn't know who offers a taxi ride. He accepts the taxi ride and gets in the car and all you can hear is the taxi drivers voice but you are unclear of what he is trying to say, and his vision is blurred and you are not sure where you are going or who the taxi driver is. James, realises that there was no taxi fare meter or a sat-nav in the vehicle. He never told the driver where to go but yet the driver didn't care. The taxi journey led to a long conversation which then leads to a friendship being formed. The taxi driver then proposes a list of things they should do together. He then wakes up in the morning not remembering what happened last night, he wakes up in a very organised, pristine room with strange objects in and a list next to his bed. He starts reading the list with different ideas and plans for two people to do, as he is half way down and the ideas are getting more inappropriate and illegal his name is called by a man. The man walks in an all you see is a tray with a full english breakfast on it.
